Ferrari 296 Speciale

Ferrari 296 Speciale

The 296 Speciale defines the new benchmark in terms of driving thrills for the Ferrari production range. Weight saving solutions, improved ABS EVO, extra boost and the new fast shift strategy come together to make the 296 Speciale the car that’s the most fun to drive on the market.

Among the most distinguishing features at the rear of the car are the side wings, which merge two concepts derived from motorsports – the lateral flaps of the FXX K and the outer profile of the bumper of the 296 Challenge – into a single element. These features have a curved geometry, with a vertical blade optimizing wake management to reduce drag.

The design of the 296 Speciale has very clear links with closed-wheel racing Ferraris. The front view leaves no doubt as the potent performance capabilities and expressiveness of the car. The front bonnet appears more scalloped, a result of the contrasting positive and negative surface effect achieved by paring away volume.

A specific door panel was created for this car consisting of a single block of carbon fibre with a minimalist design. The grab handle takes shape as a raised section of a functional zone terminating in a distinctive, clean-cut surface and incorporating the speakers of the Hi-Fi system. The tunnel consists of a structure entirely in carbon fibre, into which the console carrying the controls is set. The most distinctive of these controls is the gear shift gate selector, which draws inspiration from the shifter turret in sports Ferraris of the past.

The 296 Speciale features the extra boost control strategy, which takes full advantage of the capabilities of the electric drive system to deliver a performance boost for a limited period of time. The purpose of the extra boost function is to deliver a power boost when exiting corners to help reduce lap times. A curved indicator on the instrument panel, placed on the right hand side of the tachometer, informs the driver of the available boost power reserve.
