Ferrari 296 Speciale A

The 296 Speciale A is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 120 V6 internal combustion engine, which produces 700 cv in this guise, and an electric motor installed between the internal combustion engine itself and the 8-speed DCT gearbox, for a total output of 880 cv. An additional clutch decouple the engine and the electric motor to allow for full-electric driving mode.

The most distinctive features here are two all-new side wings which frame the tail and are fixed to the outermost edges. The flying bridge theme already seen on the 296 GTB & GTS is further accentuated on the 296 Speciale A by the dark color finish of the roof, which gives the greenhouse an even more aggressive look.

A specific door panel was created for this car consisting of a single block of carbon fibre with a minimalist design. The grab handle takes shape as a raised section of a functional zone terminating in a distinctive, clean-cut surface and incorporating the speakers of the Hi-Fi system. The tunnel consists of a structure entirely in carbon fibre, into which the console carrying the controls is set. The most distinctive of these controls is the gear shift gate selector, which draws inspiration from the shifter turret in sports Ferraris of the past.

The 296 Speciale A features the extra boost control strategy, which takes full advantage of the capabilities of the electric drive system to deliver a performance boost for a limited period of time. The purpose of the extra boost function is to deliver a power boost when exiting corners to help reduce lap times. A curved indicator on the instrument panel, placed on the right hand side of the tachometer, informs the driver of the available boost power reserve.
