One-Off Masterpiece from Ferrari Special Projects
The veil has been lifted on Ferrari’s latest One-Off creation from its Special Projects program: the Ferrari SC40. Designed by the Ferrari Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the SC40 is a mid-rear-engined V6 model built on the architecture, chassis, and powertrain of the 296 GTB. This exceptional car joins Ferrari’s most exclusive category — unique, tailor-made masterpieces crafted around a single client’s vision, embodying the pinnacle of Ferrari’s personalization philosophy.
The car’s name pays tribute to the F40, the legendary Ferrari supercar unveiled in July 1987. The SC40 echoes its sharp, angular lines, which are skillfully combined with softer surface transitions, giving the car a contemporary feel and a strong, unmistakable identity.
The SC40 is an entirely new and unique design. The “SC40” script engraved in relief on the side of the wing is a clear homage to the iconic Ferrari supercar, yet the goal was not to create a literal reinterpretation, but rather a model with its own distinct personality.
The styling theme draws inspiration from industrial design, defined by precise geometries and muscular, squared volumes. The proportions feature a long, low nose balanced by a short rear overhang and a high, fixed rear wing — painted in the car’s bespoke SC40 White — which flows from the body’s flanks. The fixed wing extends vertically from the engine cover and merges seamlessly with it, highlighted by a black separation line that enhances the black rear fascia. This area is composed of an open mesh revealing the mechanical and structural components beneath. The V6 engine is showcased through distinctive, smoked Lexan® louvres, which connect visually to the lower air intake and are echoed by smaller louvres carved into the muscular rear wings near the wheelarches. The sculpted rear section is completed by a central exhaust produced in additive manufacturing and featuring titanium and carbon-fibre tips, and by taillights that clearly hint at the 296 GTB which the car is based on. Ferrari’s Special Projects programme is dedicated to creating bespoke, one-of-a-kind Ferraris — unique “One-Offs” designed entirely around the vision of a single client. Each project begins with the client’s initial concept, which is then brought to life in close collaboration with designers from Ferrari’s Styling Centre. Once proportions and forms are defined, detailed design blueprints and a full-scale styling model are produced, paving the way for the car’s construction.
The entire process takes roughly two years, with the client deeply involved at every stage — from design reviews to technical validation. The result is a truly unique Ferrari, proudly bearing the Prancing Horse, and engineered to the same uncompromising standards of innovation, performance, and craftsmanship that define every car from Maranello.
